Dear Friends,

I don't know about you, but whenever I hear anyone even mention a vacation, I'm ready to pack my bags and go! Our annual travel issue this year strikes me as especially enticing.

We take you to Europe, where a retired Coweta County teacher and a friend from across the country enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime "girlfriend trip."

Another traveler put his life in his hands -- or did he? -- by falling asleep on a bus in Mexico as he prepared to tour the ancient sites.
One local family decided to trade their Christmas gift exchange for a memorable trip to serve at a children's home in Kenya.

And closer to home, a local mom explored the romance and mystery of Barnsley Gardens in Adairsville.

And of course in these hot summer days, our cover image and inside feature from an Alaskan cruise - courtesy of our own photographer, Bob Fraley - are especially tempting!

There's much to see and do this issue, including some great ideas for beach reads.

Is a trip to Savannah in your future? Get an inside peek into the style of that famous city in Paula Deen's new book, "Savannah Style." We're giving away a copy to one lucky reader, and newsletter readers get to enter first!

Just click on the book, at right, to enter our drawing.

However you're spending your summer, I hope this issue finds you cool, calm and collected!

Fondly
,
