Writer’s Guidelines

Newnan-Coweta Magazine welcomes submissions by freelance writers. Please query by e-mail to the editor (angela@newnan.com) before sending your submission. It is also helpful if you include samples of your work, when available, so we can see your past writing experience. We are, however, willing to work with newcomers.
Our pieces typically range from 400-800 words, and payment varies depending on the length of the piece. For style questions, please refer to The Chicago Manual of Style.
What types of articles are we interested in? Most important, the article must have a Coweta County “hook.” Our readers tell us they love the fact we focus exclusively on Coweta County, so a local angle is always central to our features.
People profiles fill a significant portion of our magazine, and we plan to continue that emphasis. If you know someone who should be profiled in the magazine, please let us know!

Trend pieces are also of interest to us, and if you see your friends and neighbors all going to some new restaurant or participating in some new sport or enjoying some new leisure activity, we’re interested, too.
Coweta County is proud of its history, and occasionally we augment our regular staff-generated history features by running freelance pieces focusing on local history. If you’ve got an idea, let us know.
Our back-of-the-book features include “My Coweta,” which are local-emphasis essays, and “Last Look,” photographs that are indeed worthy of a final look at the magazine. For these, we pay an honorarium in the form of a small gift certificate to a local business.
